How to Create a Winning Job Search Plan

 The Job Hunt.

Quote of the Week

“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” – Thomas Jefferson.

Job hunting can be particularly exhausting, especially if you have been looking for a while. But it can be even more chaotic if you are not organized in your search.

Imagine you have an interview coming up, the last thing you want to do is to start scrambling for the email invite to remind yourself of what job you are interviewing for.

By planning and organizing your job search, you can concentrate on the tasks you must complete to get ready for your next position.

Being organized can help you feel at ease and self-assured, which will make you stand out in your next interview. And make sure that your job search activities are aligned with your overall goals so you stay on track.

Here are six tactical sets for structuring your job search to help you land your next job.

Create a spreadsheet or document to track the job openings you've applied for: This will help you keep track of jobs you have applied for, the position, the company’s feedback, the offer as well as help you improve for your next interview. You should include details like the company name, job title, application deadline, and follow-up dates.

Use a calendar to schedule follow-up tasks: It’s easy to forget things or get carried away with other duties and tasks. Use tools like google calendar to schedule your meetings, tasks or interviews. You can also schedule check ins with the hiring team, in case they have not follow up questions.

Use a job search engine or aggregator to keep track of new job openings: Turn on your search engine notifications for roles and jobs that match your skill set, qualifications and experience. Use job apps like LinkedIn to check for the required skills in those roles and be sure to articulate that you have those skills in your resume.

Network with people in your industry: Everyone has a dream company. Please connect and network with people in your dream company and industry. Reach out to former colleagues, friends, and/or professional contacts. They may know of job openings that haven't been advertised yet. Additionally, attend industry networking meetings and events. You never know who might show up.

Keep your resume and cover letter up-to-date: This is an obvious one but we still have to say it. Please keep your resume updated. Add relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. Also tailor your resume for each job you apply for.

Finally, stay motivated and positive during the job search process: Job hunting can be daunting and sometimes you are tempted to go for positions you wouldn’t look twice at because your dream position is not forthcoming. Please know that It can take time to find the right opportunity, but persistence and a good attitude will help you succeed.
